Microscope

Explore digital slide material and keep the views that matter to your study topic. The built-in Microscope connects the hosted catalog with your Study Notes entries.

Browse and inspect digital slides

The built-in catalog includes Histology, Pathology, and Embryology categories. Search for material, pin useful slides, and open a slide to inspect its magnified view. Pan to another region and adjust zoom as you explore.

Digital slides provide zoomable views of their source material. Hosted content needs access to its source when you explore it. Source acknowledgements and licensing information remain in the existing Microscope interface.

Keep an exact view with a Study Notes entry

Use Tag Microscope Slide from an editable Study Notes entry, choose a hosted slide, adjust the preview, and add it. In the main Microscope, Add to entry is available from the right-click menu when you are signed in with an editable pack open.

Both paths attach the hosted slide and its saved view. The entry keeps the preview and the saved center, zoom, and location, so you can reopen that region in the same attachment viewer. It does not need to convert the slide into a duplicate ordinary image. Save your pack separately to keep the attachment in its external file.

Study the view or identify the material

An entry can hold microscope attachments alongside ordinary images. Enabling Identify includes supported attached slides in identification quizzes together with the entry's images. Opening a slide from the quiz uses the same microscope attachment viewer as the entry.

Choose a view that provides enough visual context for the question you want to answer. Identify asks you to recall the material you attached and labelled, using the view you selected.

Understand hosted and imported sources

The Microscope also supports its existing slide-source import workflow. Imported DZI packages are different from uploaded entry photographs and from the hosted catalog. Follow the guide for the expected package structure and available controls.

For a topic that also needs written explanations or a drawing, link the slide view with a Study Notes entry. Use Flashcards for a smaller prompt-and-answer workflow. These tools serve different study needs without changing the underlying microscope source.
