Saving and files

Understand Save, Save as…, device file support, browser-local work, and the top-bar save status.

Checked against the current app on 2026-10-03.

Save the current pack

The dropdown keeps two destinations, each with Save and Save as…. Labels elsewhere in the Save page may read Download, Save as, Save changes, or Save to Google Drive depending on the current state.

  1. Finish entry drafts with Save notes, Save image, or Save canvas as appropriate.
  2. Open the top-bar Save dropdown using its chevron. Its main label can also perform the primary save action.
  3. Choose This device or Google Drive.
  4. For the first device file, choose Save as… and give the file a name. For a separate new Drive file, choose Google Drive → Save as….
  5. Wait for the operation to finish and check the Save status. Keep the saved file somewhere you can find it.

DestinationSaveSave as…
This deviceUpdates an already linked writable file. If no writable link exists, use Save as… first.Chooses a filename and destination where the browser supports a save-file picker; otherwise downloads a named copy.
Google DriveUpdates your owned linked Drive pack, or opens the save chooser when you need to establish a destination. Review whether its confirm action updates an existing file.Creates a new private Drive file rather than overwriting the linked original.

Read the top-bar status

Buttons may be unavailable for an empty pack, while importing or saving, before Google is connected, or while a conflict needs an explicit decision. A status for one destination does not mean every copy everywhere is updated.

LabelMeaning / next step
Save / Save copyBrowser-only work needs a file, or a read-only shared pack needs your own editable copy.
Save changesThe linked device or Drive pack has local changes to save.
Saved / Device savedThe corresponding linked save is current. Another backup destination may still need updating.
Save backupThe Drive save is current, but the device backup is not current.
Update availableA newer remote version is detected. Review and Reopen pack to load it.
Save conflictLocal changes and a remote update both exist. Preserve a copy before deciding to reopen or overwrite.
SavingWait for the active operation to finish; do not start a competing save.

Where your work is stored

  • This browser: current libraries, local edits, preferences, and non-secret remembered pack information. Browser cleanup, sign-out, reset, or storage loss can remove it.
  • This device: pack files you deliberately save/download. Browser storage is not the same as a file in Downloads or another folder.
  • Google Drive: private packs you save through the connected account. Optional app memory/profile sync is separate from saving the pack itself.
  • Public packs: material you explicitly publish through Share, including its public details and previews. Ordinary private pack edits do not automatically become public.
  • Public profiles: saving your profile can also update its public author information, separately from pack publishing. Do not put private information in public profile fields.

Keep a recovery copy

Save as… is useful before large edits, deleting entries, importing another pack, resetting the app, or signing out. Keep original-quality files when moving between desktop and phone.

Some device exports optimize large image data for the file while the browser library retains full-quality content. The app can therefore still show changes or backup differences after an optimized export. Review the reported save result rather than assuming every representation is identical.

Questions and answers

How do I save my pack?

Finish entry drafts, open the Save dropdown, and choose This device or Google Drive. Use Save as… for a first device file or a separate new copy. Save updates an existing owned linked destination when supported. Wait for completion and check the top-bar status.

What is the difference between Save and Save as…?

Save updates an established writable device file or your owned linked Drive pack. Save as… chooses a separate named destination; on Drive it creates a new private file. A browser download without a file-picker link needs another Save as… for the next exported copy.

Where is my data stored?

Local work is held in this browser. Device backups are files you save yourself. Private Drive packs stay in your Google Drive and become public through Share. Saving your profile can separately update its public author fields. Browser-local storage can be removed by sign-out, Reset app, or browser cleanup.

Why is Save disabled?

The pack may be empty, importing or saving, read-only without your own copy, waiting for Google connection, or in a conflict that needs a decision. Check the adjacent status and Status history. Save as… can establish a copy when there is no writable destination.
