Getting started

Choose Study Notes or Flashcards, create your first pack, and understand what stays on this device.

Checked against the current app on 2026-10-03.

Choose your study system

Click the stacked icons beside the system title to choose Study Notes or Flashcards. The account menu also has Switch library. Selecting the active system keeps it active; switching shows the other system’s library.

The smaller title beneath the system name is your pack name. A custom pack name stays separate from the system name.

Choose your study system
SystemUse it for
Study NotesEntries with rich notes, ordinary images, microscope attachments, and a separate drawing Canvas. Quiz questions can use note blanks, image identification, and answered Tape covers.
FlashcardsFront-and-back cards for quick recall. Each face uses text, an image, or Canvas. Flip and rate cards in a quiz.

Create your first pack

  1. Open Create in the top bar and choose New pack.
  2. In Create a pack, click Choose Study Notes or Flashcards, then choose your system. Follow any save or discard choice for an existing pack before replacing it.
  3. Use New entry, or Create → New entry, to open Add a custom entry. Enter Name and optionally Group (optional).
  4. Use the creation button shown for your library, such as Create first slide, Create first card, or Add custom entry.
  5. Add notes, images, or Canvas to a Study Notes entry; add front and back content to a Flashcard.
  6. Save a pack file using the Save dropdown. Choose This device → Save as… for your first device file, or Google Drive → Save as… for a new Drive file.

Name your pack

A blank or unchanged value closes without renaming. Read-only packs cannot use this edit path. A linked Drive pack can use the existing Drive rename workflow, so check the reported result. On a phone, the first tap may reveal a truncated full name before another tap edits it.

  1. Click the pack name beneath the system title; the control is labelled Rename current pack.
  2. Type the name in Pack name (up to 80 characters).
  3. Press Enter or leave the field to save; Escape cancels.

Open an existing pack

ColloqAid recognizes the pack’s system when opening it. Opening one pack replaces that system’s current library; selecting multiple device packs merges the selected files and replaces the current library with the result. Save the current pack first.

  1. Use Create → From device to choose a .gqb Study Notes pack or .gqa Flashcards pack, then Open pack.
  2. For a private Drive pack, use Create → From Google Drive and Choose from Google Drive. Sign in when asked and choose the file through Google’s picker.
  3. For community material, choose Shared packs and open a public pack. Save your own copy before editing a read-only shared pack.

Start locally, then save deliberately

You can create, edit, and study locally without signing in. Google Drive, your cloud profile, and public publishing require Google sign-in.

Browser storage keeps local app data, but it is not a replacement for a saved pack file. Clearing browser data, resetting the app, storage limits, or signing out can remove browser-local work. Save a device or Drive copy first.

Use the Save status in the top bar to check the current pack’s state. Saving a note or drawing inside an entry updates the local pack; save the pack itself to update its file.

Can I use ColloqAid without signing in?

Yes. Local editing, studying, device pack files, and public browsing are available without an account. Private Google Drive access, cloud profiles, public sharing, and some community actions require sign-in. In the connection window, Continue locally for now keeps local use available.
