Shared packs and publishing
Browse public packs, save your own copy, publish an owned pack, and manage its shared version.
Checked against the current app on 2026-10-03.
Find and open a shared pack
Download requires sign-in and means a Drive copy, not a device-file download. Current pack, Open Drive copy, Downloaded, or reopening labels can replace an ordinary action for an already open or saved pack. Pin/unpin remembers favorites locally; tag pills can filter results.
- Choose Shared packs and use Search shared packs.
- Narrow the results with Library type, Subject, Language, Institution, Country, Year / Grade, or Term / Semester. Clear filters resets those choices; Refresh reloads the catalog.
- Expand a pack card to review its description, tags, author, and available actions.
- Choose Open pack to study its shared version, or Download to save an owned copy in your Google Drive.
- Click the author’s name or avatar to open Author Profile and see their other public packs.
Publish your own pack
- Sign in and save the pack as your owned private Google Drive file.
- Save pending pack changes before publishing. If the app says Save to Google Drive first or Save pack changes first, finish that step first.
- Open Share in the top bar to show Share with students.
- Fill Pack title * and Author *. Add Subject, Description, Tags, and the optional institution, language, country, year, semester, or support-link details.
- Review Student preview, which is the card people see before opening or downloading.
- Click Share this pack, then Share this pack? to confirm publishing.
- Wait for the process result. Use Copy link beside Shared Drive link when available.
Update a published pack
Private pack changes and the published version are separate states. An unsuccessful public update or preview operation can leave the last confirmed public version in place. Review Status history before retrying instead of assuming private Save published everything.
Phone edits may need to be saved and applied to the original pack on a computer before you update its shared version. Cancel while editing public details restores the confirmed details.
- Edit your owned pack and save its Drive changes.
- Open Update share or Share to return to the sharing panel.
- Use Edit pack details when you need to unlock existing public details; review the current Student preview.
- Use Update shared pack or Update pack details as offered, then click Update shared pack? to confirm.
- Wait for the confirmed result before treating the public version as current.
Stop sharing a pack
Unpublishing removes the public sharing while keeping the owned private source in your known Drive packs. It is separate from deleting that file. Copies other people already saved are not automatically removed from their devices or Drive.
- Open the current pack’s sharing panel.
- Click Unpublish, then Unpublish this pack? to confirm.
- Wait for the result. In Packs in Google Drive, the corresponding management action is Stop sharing.
Tags and remembered publishing details
In Tags, commit a tag with Space, Enter, or a comma. Review the committed chips before publishing.
Clear pack defaults clears remembered academic/context defaults such as Institution, Country, Language, Subject, Year / Grade, and Term / Semester, and clears those current form values. It does not unpublish the pack or clear its title, author, description, tags, or support links.
Reactions, profiles, and reports
- Signed-in users can Add thumbs-up or Add heart, and remove their own reactions. You cannot react to your own pack.
- The pack card menu can offer Share Pack, Copy Drive Link, and View shared version. Invitation-page onward actions open another tab so the invitation remains open.
- Report pack is available when signed in. Choose Reason, explain What is the concern? in 10–800 characters, optionally allow a contact email, then Send report. Reporting does not automatically hide or penalize a pack.
- Author Profile displays public creator information, support links, and packs. Size, A-Z, Date, Study Notes, and Flashcards controls help browse that author’s material.
Questions and answers
What does Download in Shared packs do?
It saves your own copy of the public pack in Google Drive and requires sign-in. It is different from This device → Save as…, which exports a device file. Open pack can open the shared read-only version without making an editable owned copy.
Does saving my Drive pack update the shared version automatically?
Private saving and public publishing are separate. Save the owned Drive changes first, then use Update share and the sharing panel’s update confirmation. Check the result; a failed publishing or preview step does not mean the public version has updated.
Why can’t I edit an opened shared pack?
A temporary shared view is read-only. Use Download or Save copy to establish your own editable copy rather than changing the creator’s pack. When you already own a copy, Open Drive copy may be the relevant action.
