Import and export

Choose the right file

Study Notes uses .gqb packs; Flashcards uses .gqa packs. The pack’s metadata determines its system when opened. These files are different from individual image uploads or imported microscope DZI packages.

Opening one pack replaces that system’s current local library rather than appending to it. Selecting multiple compatible device packs merges those chosen files, then replaces the current library with that merged result. Save current work first; the other system’s library is separate.

Open a pack from this device

Multiple selected packs are merged, with duplicate names or codes becoming copies, before replacing the current library. Existing external device/Drive files are not deleted by this import. Cancelling the confirmation keeps the existing library. Wait for import to finish before saving, changing media, or opening another pack.

1. Choose Create → From device, or Open library and the device-opening path.
2. In Open from this device, use Choose file to select a pack. You can select multiple compatible files.
3. Click Open pack and read the import confirmation for the current library.
4. On desktop, confirm Open & replace for one file, or Merge & replace for multiple files. On mobile, review Import backup and choose Import.
5. Wait for import completion, then review the selected system and entries.

Open a Drive link or a shared pack

1. For a private file, use Create → From Google Drive → Choose from Google Drive and select it through the picker.
2. For a shared Drive link, enter it in Paste a Google Drive file link here and use the arrow labelled Import shared Drive link.
3. Alternatively browse Shared packs and choose Open pack.
4. A read-only shared version needs your own saved copy before editing. Download in Shared packs saves a copy to your Google Drive and requires sign-in.

Export or transfer a pack

Keep an original-quality backup. Phone/mobile versions are intended for phones and cannot be imported as replacement desktop originals. Follow the Mobile and tablet guide for large pack and phone-edit choices.

1. Finish entry drafts and open the Save dropdown.
2. Choose This device → Save as… to export a named file. Use the browser’s destination picker where supported, or find the download in your download folder.
3. Transfer that saved file to the other device and use From device there.
4. For cloud transfer, save an owned Drive pack and choose the same file on the other device. Review remote-update warnings before overwriting.
